Aura’s Chart Briefing

On arrival at Aura’s base

we sit down with you for a detailed chart briefing. Part of the beauty of sailing charter is that no two trips are the same. Based on your group’s particular interests, we help you to plan your route and ideal stop offs. Necessarily, we also look at the current weather conditions and forecast giving guidance on catching the best winds, suggestions for shelter, cautions and safety.

Some guests want to sail from dawn to dusk stopping only at the end of the day for dining and drinking, others want to trace the footsteps of the ancients and soak up the history of the region, and yet others prefer to moor up in marinas every evening to make the most of the local nightlife. Alternatively, you may want a yacht holiday where you stop for a swim every couple of hours. As far as we’re concerned, it is all possible, and our chart briefing is designed to make sure every group find what they’re looking for.

Sailing & Climate

The Turkish Aegean and eastern Mediterranean

offers great conditions for sailing- plus a long season lasting from April to November. The region is ideal for the novice sailor, as well as challenging enough for the experienced yachtsman.

During the season, the winds in the Aegean blow prevalently offshore Northwesterly at 15-20 knots. This wind, the Meltemi, is usually at its best from late morning to late afternoon. There are no tides or strong currents. Summer is dry and hot, rain very unlikely, while Spring and Autumn are still very warm and sunny.

From the well-known sites like Efesus and St. Peters castle in Bodrum,

to more remote places like Knidos and Afrodisias, Turkey is an historian’s dream. Many of the ancient sites in the south-west are coastal or within easy reach of the coast, making sailing the perfect platform from which to explore.

Turkey is also one huge, untapped adventure playground with terrain and climate ideal for a multitude of adventure sports. Whether expert, dabbler or novice, there are activities and facilities to suit all. From Aura Yachting’s base, we can arrange diving with one of the best diving operations around- Try-dives or PADI courses - the choice is yours, and what better a way than from your own yacht with a rendezvous with the dive boat. Amongst others, activities available include: biking, river-rafting, water-skiing, windsurfing, dinghy sailing, paragliding (hill-launch), parasailing and much more.
