What is a Bareboat holiday?

Bareboat means without skipper or crew. All our yachts are fully equipped for cruising in comfort and have full safety, navigational and domestic equipment.

What sailing experience and qualifications are required for a bareboat charter holiday?

To charter a yacht bareboat you should have previous skipper experience to Day Skipper level, gained by sailing in the UK, or your own countries’ equivalent. You should be competent at handling a yacht in close quarters, anchoring and mooring in varying conditions, and be able to use your navigation and pilotage skills to plan a day passage and know your position at any time. You should be accompanied and assisted by at least one competent crewmember. We do accept skippers without a qualification; you need to give us your past experience and nautical miles.

What if I have never sailed before or need a Skipper for a few days?

You can hire a skipper for the first few days if you want to gain confidence in a new destination or with a larger yacht. If you have no experience at all but still want to have the thrill of a sailing holiday, one of our experienced skippers can go along with you. With their knowledge of the area and sailing skills you will definitely have a great time.

Who owns the yachts and what back up can I expect?

All of our charter yachts are privately owned and managed by Aura Yachting. We handle the local bureaucracy, insurance, maintenance, cleaning, changeovers, etc.
We operate an excellent technical department as back-up to cope with any problems. Contact the Aura base by mobile phone for technical assistance and advice we will either come to your aid or send a local agent to meet you at your next port of call. We have a 24 hour emergency telephone number and always have full-time technical staff at the base.

What are the yachts like that can I charter bareboat?

We have yachts ranging from 32 feet to 50 feet, and several catamarans. Our fleet accommodates from 2-10 passengers/ crew. Our yacht models Include Beneteau, Jeanneau, Dufour and Lagoon

What is onboard?

Our yachts have lots of extras onboard for your safety, comfort and leisure. Please go to our fleet portfolio to view the specs and yacht inventories.

What is the yacht security deposit?

A security deposit is required for all charters against the possibility of damage to the yacht, loss of equipment or late return. The amount is payable on embarkation and returned, less any necessary deductions, at the end of your charter. All our charter yachts are fully insured under marine insurance policies against loss, damage and third party indemnity.

You are expected to take all reasonable care but, in the event of loss or damage to the yacht and its equipment, your liability is limited to the amount of your security deposit unless such damage or loss was caused by your negligence or willful damage.

It is important that previous sailing experience is correctly shown on your booking form for full indemnity of any risks.

What time can I get on and off my yacht? What if I have night flights?

Our yachts are not normally ready for embarkation until 4pm. If you arrive before 4, you may be able to get onboard earlier in the afternoon if the yacht is ready, but this cannot be guaranteed in advance.

If you arrive later you will be able to board your yacht any time during the night and have your check-in the following morning.

The yacht must be back at the Aura Yachting base by 4pm on the evening before the charter ends, and vacated by 9am on the last day to allow for cleaning and maintenance of the yacht between charters.

If your return flight is later that day or in the evening, you will be able to leave your luggage at the base while you spend the day on the beach or sightseeing.

Will our mobile telephones work when we are cruising?

In most places along the Turkish coast you will pick up a mobile phone signal.

I need to check my work mail; can I get Internet access at sea?

On the Turkcell network you can pick up a GPRS connection for the Internet on some phones. All marinas have Internet access and some have wireless connections. Lots of restaurants even in the remotest bays offer Internet access
